Functional Safety Review for Major UK Theme Park Attraction

FAIRFIELDS has been awarded a project to undertake a detailed Design Risk Assessment (DRA) review for a major UK theme park roller coaster, supporting a planned upgrade to the attraction’s control and safety systems.

The project will focus on a range of safety-critical functions, including loading and exit gates, passenger restraint monitoring, controlled access points, maintenance doors and ride dispatch inhibition. FAIRFIELDS’ functional safety engineers will review the existing risk assessment, assess the additional safety requirements and define the required Performance Levels for incorporation into an updated Design Risk Assessment and Safety Requirements Specification (SRS).

Working closely with the customer, independent ride safety assessors and relevant equipment suppliers, FAIRFIELDS will ensure that functional safety and risk reduction remain central to the planned control system upgrade. The assessment will be undertaken with reference to recognised machinery and amusement ride safety standards, providing a robust engineering basis for the next stage of the project.
