Making the most of the Summer
What a busy Summer we’re having at FES! The team is busy delivering projects across the length and breadth of the country.
PM Ross Millward has won the July “prize for travel”, successfully navigating north, south and east in the last few weeks. He has been on site in Cambridgeshire delivering a Jackson Civil Engineering Ltd project that has been ongoing since November 2021. The scope has included refurbishment works on a number of guillotine water control gates within their framework on the Nene & Ouse rivers, providing:
- M&E design, supply and installation
- replacing drives train elements,
- assessing and improving operational parameters
- adjusting and replacing counterweight, whilst improving safety with access platforms and machinery covers.
- he has even installed an eel pass!
Ross has also been continuing our works with Viterra UK Ltd at their import terminal in Portland, preparing to upgrade their quayside handling equipment in September and finally…
He and Mechanical Design Engineer Andy Proctor have also been in Scotland on the Crinan Canal, looking after one of our Scottish Canal framework projects. The works here are to delicately refurbish the mechanical drive train and wedging systems on manually operated Victorian swing bridges. We’re preparing this structure for operation by the canal users.
A very close runner-up on the travel front is our PM Ian McBride 😊
This week he and Andy is in the southwest of the country, at our project on the mechanical refurbishment works of Redcliffe Bridge bascule bridge in Bristol floating harbour.
Ian was in the southeast last week, replacing rollers in a Victorian engineered swing bridge in rather ‘warm’ summer temperatures. At the beginning of the month, he had been on site in Liverpool, closing out our works programme to reinstate Collingwood dock swing bridge as part of the New Everton Stadium Build project.
We’re looking for new team members to keep up with our growing number of projects. If you’re interested in site management, supervision or mechanical design, please check out our current Vacancies and we would look forward to hearing from you!
