Bassetlaw Foodbank Donation

Fairfields have been collecting items for the Bassetlaw Foodbank over the past 2 weeks as part of the ‘Reverse Advent Calendar’ campaign – start with an empty box and add items every day in the run up to Christmas. Today, 2 large boxes of food and toiletries donated by staff were delivered to the Bassetlaw Foodbank distribution centre in Retford in time to be sorted and distributed before Christmas. A big thank you to the staff at Fairfields for their kind donations. Hopefully these will help make Christmas a little bit easier for someone. Set up in 2013, the Bassetlaw Foodbank now has 4 satellite stations across the region as well as the 2 main distribution centres in Retford and Worksop. The foodbank is reliant on grants and donations and currently has a 90-strong team of volunteers to collect, sort and distribute items to people referred to them. People who use the service are referred through outside agencies, including Nottinghamshire Women’s Aid, Barnados, Surestart, British Legion and Framework (the homeless housing organisation) among many others. These agencies have the capacity to work closely with those who are in need to signpost them to other services as well as the food bank. Although the foodbank is well-stocked now following the successful Reverse Advent Calendar campaign, traditionally they see donations drop dramatically after Christmas. They have already seen a 20% increase in demand compared to this time last year so stocks could be depleted as early as February or March. If you can donate or volunteer for your local foodbank, please do. The distribution centres in Bassetlaw are open Monday to Friday 10am to 2pm.
