Vacancy: Senior Quantity Surveyor

As the business continues to grow, a key opportunity has arisen for a contractually and commercially aware Senior Quantity Surveyor to join our team.

The Role

Key Purpose: To provide commercial management, assessment and reporting of all commercial aspects of ongoing projects and prospects.

Assess costs/value, quantities and assess impact to preliminaries with respect to project timelines. You will liaise with Pre-Contract to ensure transition into project delivery teams, ensuring complex purchase orders and subcontracts are placed to deliver the works and keep the project on track.

Pre-Contract:

  • Provide input to the reviewing of proposed works contracts, identifying potential risks and issues to allow full assessment of the works package.

During Contract:

Liaise with the client and other construction professionals, such as project managers, engineers and site managers.

  • Review tender and contract documents
  • Identify and weigh up commercial risks
  • Place Specialist Purchase Orders with more onerous terms, and developing supply chain sub contracts in line and back to back with the main contract where possible.
  • Assign work to subcontractors – overseeing their progress and valuations of it.
  • Value completed work, managing budgets and overseeing payments
  • Ensure projects meet Contractual standards
  • Submit regular cost analyses and monthly CVR reports for ongoing projects
  • Advise on contractual claims and disputes

Resourcing/Scheduling

  • Forward plan and schedule all FES’s commercial management as the company grows with additional QS resource as required and agreed with company directors.
  • Working with FES’s Director, procure a network of subcontractors to carry out work as scheduled, ensuring they meet all required standards and with adequate levels of insurance and accreditations.

Contract Close Out 

  • Manage process of Defects Liability and release of retentions on projects when completed.
  • Utilise your experience and skills to provide support to the wider project team as required.

The Candidate

  • A minimum of 5 years’ experience in Quantity Surveying, contract review and commercial management.
  • Understanding of Sage accounting systems and job costing software, such as Eque2 or similar
  • Extensive Contract knowledge of NEC
  • Customer facing with good communication skills
  • Highly motivated and disciplined, able to work flexibly with exceptional organisation skills and the ability to multi-task several work flows
  • Ability to work to procedures in detail
  • Have the ability to see and articulate improvements to the company systems to improve performance.
