Design Engineer wins AESSEAL Prize
Emma Roberts, a Fairfield’s Design Engineer, was awarded the AESSEAL & IMechE Prize for the Best Female Engineering Graduate 2017. The AESSEAL Prize, accredited by the IET, was presented at the Graduation prize giving ceremony at Sheffield City Hall in November, where Emma also received a First Class Honours Degree in Electrical Engineering. AESSEAL have been working with the university to encourage more women to study and work engineering fields.
Emma started at Fairfields as an Apprentice Engineer back in 2012. Apprentices gain hands on experience in the workplace and onsite 4 days per week and attend college 1 day per week to complete an HNC/HND in Electronic and Electrical Engineering over a 3 year programme. Emma completed her higher apprenticeship in 2015, collecting an award for Regional Apprentice of the Year along the way in 2014. She has been employed full-time as a Design Engineer since 2015 and was supported and sponsored by Fairfields to complete her degree for an additional 2 years.
