European Star Award 2017
The Viking Voyage Superflume at Tayto Theme Park in Ireland has won a European Star Award for ‘Best New Ride in 2017’ at the IAAPA Euro Attractions Show (EAS 2017) in Berlin this week. The non-profit European Star Awards were launched by the trade magazine Kirmes & Park Revue in 2012, in order to highlight innovative ideas and entrepreneurial strength within the industry on an annual basis. Now in their 6th year, winners are voted for by a team of experts in 13 different categories.
The award-winning ride was designed by industry ride specialists, Interlink LG, who asked Fairfields to design the control and supervisory system following Fairfield’s success on other Leisure and ride projects, including The London Dungeon Rat Trap, Wallace and Gromit Thrill-O-Matic at Blackpool Pleasure Beach and Dreamland’s Scenic Railway Rollercoaster at Margate. The superflume, so-called as passengers can be seated side by side instead of one row like on traditional log flumes, has proved to be an enormous success for the theme park, significantly increasing footfall over the summer months and is well deserving of the award.
The control and supervisory system designed by our TUV qualified engineers incorporates our patented ASisafe™ ride blocking system, meaning we were able to provide a control system that monitored the position of the boats at various points on the ride to ensure safe operation at all times.
Congratulations to all the team involved in the project!
