Instrumentation

With greater instrument connectivity through Fieldbus and Ethernet networks, as well as the emergence of more suitable wireless instrumentation, the data collected from plant level has never been more important to provide industry with the facility to make better, more informed decisions about the control and optimisation of manufacturing and process environments.

Whether it is monitoring level, temperature, flow, conductivity, pressure or position, we have the ability to measure the output performance of the device being controlled. With strategic data collection and storage with analytical tools and techniques, we are assisting our clients and partners to:

  • Improve and optimise process control
  • Increase productivity
  • Reduce waste
  • Reduce the re-work on out of specification products
  • Introduce more effective preventative maintenance routines
  • Eliminate unexpected plant down time
  • Improve safety

Whether it is monitoring level, temperature, flow, conductivity, pressure or position, we have the ability to measure the output performance of the device being controlled.

Understanding the criticalities of a process is key to instrument selection and placement. Fairfields has been addressing this requirement from our clients by providing turnkey solutions including the research, design, selection and installation of instrumentation from simple vessel level control to safety related control systems for the leisure industry, critical flood alleviations and complex process control applications.

Following the installation and implementation of the instruments, our fully equipped Service Team can provide the lifecycle support of maintenance and calibration services to ensure the control and data that the instruments provide is always accurate.

Fairfields currently undertakes the maintenance and calibration responsibilities of over 150 sites as part of framework agreements, with the majority having an element of critical level and/or flow detection and their subsequent control.

Safety Systems

The selection of the correct safety-related instrument for any safety-related application is a critical part of the assessment and design phase. It is not acceptable to just select the device with the highest SIL or PL certification; the type of device and environment where it is to be used should form a basis of each sub system and the overall system architecture, whether it be via hardwired instruments or via a safety-related network.

In 2014, Fairfields developed, designed and was granted a patent for our innovative ‘blocking system’, which is used within the leisure ride industry on multi-car rides. Industry standard safety sensors are configured with a safety controller in such a way to prevent individual cars colliding with each other. This application has now been deployed on a number of leisure rides.
