Electric Overhead Travlling (EOT) Crane

The SAWBR project is a turnkey project used to provide a remote facility for the retrieval and packaging of waste into NIREX 3m³ boxes during the decommissioning of Hunterston A Power Station. The package handling crane is an Electric Overhead Travelling double girder with a top running crab, rated for a safe working load of 10 tonnes suspended from a grapple fixture. The grapple fixture incorporates four motorised twistlock mechanisms that are used to securely engage with the NIREX 3m³ boxes. The crane is normally operated from an operator station within the Central Control Room or from a Remote Radio Controller. All crane movements are controlled by a Allen Bradley ControlLogix 5000 PLC. Telemecanique Altivar 71 Variable Speed Drives are used in closed loop configuration to control each crane axis electric drive motor via the PLC over a Device Net communication network.
